Brief musings on confessing sins ..

We have often heard we need to keep admitting sins to God by confession ,save the needless conundrum in 1john 1:9( which requires objective study ) no other scripture or apostle taught confessing your sins to obtain forgiveness of sins ,

Abraham never did ,neither did any patriarch of old.

They got it by faith

Romans 4:3,6-8 KJV
[3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
[6] Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
[7] Saying , Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. [8] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Faith in the gospel ,back then it was promissory, today it's a done task ,both ways it was and is reality .

After the 1 john 1:9 submission ,john reiterates the same fact with strong words of assurance

1 John 2:1-2,12 KJV
[1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
[2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. [12] I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

That said ,

The writer of Hebrews gives us some pellucid thinking

Hebrews 10:1 KJV
[1] For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

The law promulgated a practice of coming to God to offer something for your sins ,this never took away sins rather gave the offerers a consciousness of guilt .

Hebrews 10:2-3 KJV
[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. [3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

In the New covenant, which is in Christ ,it's not man's offerings but Gods offering

As God never asked for a single offering ,not from Anyone

Hebrews 10:6,8 KJV
[6] In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
[8] Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein ; which are offered by the law;

This is man's attempt .God doesn't demand ,He supplies .

Giving him your seed or confession for Him "to work on "isn't His will .

Hebrews 10:7,9 KJV
[7] Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. [9] Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

His will is to offer, not take offerings for sins ,in this He MURDERS the Old Testament ( that's what takes away here means !)and makes it null and void to " do something to be forgiven !"

The fabric of the New Testament is to Know ..

Hebrews 8:10-11 KJV
[10] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11] And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

This knowing is specific ,not open ended

Hebrews 8:12 KJV
[12] For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

God has dealt with sin without our inputs !

Hebrews 8:13 KJV
[13] In that he saith, A new covenant , he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

This ended the law and retired it with no benefits.

Hence ,to say or do something so as to be forgiven is not found in God but in man

Hence the writer of Hebrews makes it clearer

Hebrews 10:10-11 KJV
[10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all .
[11] And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

God offered and made the "confession "that takes away sin !

We are the receivers of it .

Hebrews 10:12-14 KJV
[12] But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13] From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

The man saved ,who has believed stands before God always perfect ,Holy and just .
ALWAYS.

Else His offering for sin won't be any different from man's attempt ,the law .

So we have no such encouragement from God to tell him so He can do it ..,forgive sins .

That's at best ,saying nothing

Men need it in relationships and such Like James taught

James 5:15-16 KJV
[15] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
[16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

This is for human relationships but not God .

Needful and spiritual if done without hypocrisy,to restore our relationships, but not for God !

Ours with Him is His work .Alone

Hence the writer of Hebrews caps it up telling us what to do with our words

Hebrews 13:15 KJV
[15] By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Praise !

Thanksgiving ,Confession of His name,His finished work .

This is our offering ,we offer Him what He offered ,

This is what we should do ,and will glorify Him

You don't glorify a person by saying or showing what you do ,rather what He has done or can do.

Let's confess properly ,and see Him righteously....

You are blessed
