Who are you by the way (3)

The most vital knowledge in scriptures is knowing who Jesus is and who we are and what we can do in Him

Philemon 1:6 KJV
[6] That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Two things are notable here,good things in christ ,which are in us or vice versa .

In the four gospels the question was who am I?

Matthew 16:15 KJV
[15] He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Peters revelation was about Him.

Matthew 16:16 KJV
[16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

This is the incarnation ,

The present christ as at that day .

Pauls prayer focused on something much more .A higher revelation .

Ephesians 1:17-18 KJV
[17] That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
[18] The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Riches i.e wealth of the glory of His inheritance ,i.e what He gave us .

Inheritance in the saints .

Jesus had earlier hinted this .

Matthew 16:19 KJV
[19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

I will "dash "you the authority of the kingdom and you will use it in the earth .

Why didn't he do that then and immediately ?

Let's track back a bit

Matthew 16:18 KJV
[18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

I will build my church .

This refers to His body after the resurrection .

John 2:19 KJV
[19] Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

His language was vague to his audience ,they were sense ruled

John 2:20 KJV
[20] Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

They simply looked around and were fixated on the temple being a physical building .

Many still do today .

John 2:21-22 KJV
[21] But he spake of the temple of his body.
[22] When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

He referred to His body .

He will build it .

This means to found it,establish .

It wasn't a process .

Ephesians 2:21-22 KJV
[21] In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: [22] In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

This isn't a daily activity.

It was done .

In Him.

Jesus mentioned the Gates of Hell or better still gates of death .Hades in the original language

Not the earthly grave .hades was where the dead go to,their souls or spirit .

Jesus was there too

Acts 2:27 KJV
[27] Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

He rose from there .

When He did ,it was so because the authority of death ,Hades,couldn't stop Him.

He stripped it of its authority .

Hebrews 2:14 KJV
[14] Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Destroy here means to strip naked .

This wasn't for Jesus' benefit

Hebrews 2:15 KJV
[15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

It's for His church.

His body .

Pete saw Jesus ,God incarnate ,Jesus raised the bar to His death and resurrection .

Peter didn't see this in his earlier revelation hence his  subsequent goof

Matthew 16:21 KJV
[21] From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Jesus explained what he meant earlier by gates of hell/ Hades in practical terms

" I will be killed and be raised "

Matthew 16:22 KJV
[22] Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

Peter developed cold feet .

He never saw beyond the incarnation and the annointing of Jesus ( Christ )

This was so fatal a goof ,Jesus had to address satan

Matthew 16:23 KJV
[23] But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

His death was fundamental since all benefits were tied to His resurrection

He must die to live again ,live for us

Else we are the same as he met us

1 Corinthians 15:17 KJV
[17] And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

He will build His church from His resurrection .

Pauls prayer for revelation focused on our inheritance from this .

Ephesians 1:19-20 KJV
[19] And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20] Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places ,

This isn't focused on knowing Him within the four gospels .

Some cry " I want to be like you,talk like you " referring to the Four gospels account .

This is unbelief .

Our revelation should supercede peters .

Notice the key issue with this prayer here is what is ours

Ephesians 1:21-23 KJV
[21] Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
[22] And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
[23] Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

What He gave to His Church,His Body .

All things from His resurrection became ours,

In the Earth,

Where He is,is where we are

Ephesians 2:5-6 KJV
[5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
[6] And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Just as He promised

John 14:3 KJV
that where I am, there ye may be also.

From Paul's explanation ,this is the right hand of God,The Father

Notice the term "together "

Jesus is now the Head of this body .

This new creation ,species ,kind and breed of man .

He is the first born .

Colossians 1:18 KJV
[18] And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

From the dead ,gates of hell ,Hades .

Hence the church is referred to as the gathering of the first born

Hebrews 12:23 KJV
[23] To the general assembly and church of the firstborn

This is via the resurrection .christ Jesus is prototype ,arch type of the new man .

No one is born incomplete ,unrighteous or unholy .

We are born and made like the first begotten ,our prototype

Romans 8:29 KJV
[29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Some have misinterpreted the use of son and children .

They have not been diligent .

They say children at salvation and sons at spiritual growth .

They are not correct .

Paul's figure of speech in Galatians must have befuddled them .

Galatians 4:1-2 KJV
[1] Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
[2] But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

He wasn't teaching spiritual growth here but salvation through faith and deliverance from the law.

We were children of the law ,referring to Jews .

He mentioned this earlier .

Galatians 3:23-25 KJV
[23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
[24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

School master here is child leader .instructor.

Till Christ came .faith came .

Galatians 4:3 KJV
[3] Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

This can't be the believer .bondage ?Never.

The proceeding text defines salvation ,when faith came the Spirit was given .

Galatians 4:4-5 KJV
[4] But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
[5] To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

This is salvation .The law didn't save.

Faith recieved the Promised Spirit

Galatians 3:14 KJV
[14] That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The adoption of Sons

Galatians 4:5 KJV
[5] To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Same .

Galatians 4:6-7 KJV
[6] And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
[7] Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Same .

We are referred to as children of God and Sons of God.

Galatians 3:26 KJV
[26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Earlier called children of the law but when faith came ,children of God.

Sons refer to heirs,those who take the Father's place,

These are His children .

Many confuse this with babes ,which was used for spiritual growth .

Galatians 4:19 KJV
[19] My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

Sons yet little children in development .Notice he said " my little " referring to himself .
In the original ,little is passive or non existent .

John was similar

1 John 3:1-2 KJV
[1] Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God..
2] Beloved, now are we the sons of God

The original word is used as " children "

John referred to himself too here .
John is not a babe growing into sonship .

1 John 4:4 KJV
[4] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Here he refers to others ,his spiritual children .

3 John 1:4 KJV
[4] I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

We mustn't mix this up.

We are Sons with the inheritance and Children ,the seed of God in the new birth

Romans 8:14 KJV
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Sons of God

Because we received the Spirit of God,

Romans 8:15 KJV
[15] For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Adoption means to be seen and made or set as Sons

So we recieved the Spirit of The Son.

Romans 8:16-17 KJV
[16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

With the testimony that we are Gods children ,His seed

[17] And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;

Jointly with christ .

Your Sons are your children .

The term Babes was used for spiritual growth

Ephesians 4:14 KJV
[14] That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Other translations used babes ,and correctly so

1 Corinthians 3:1 KJV
[1] And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

This is spiritual growth hence the term " walk " referring to works and conduct .

1 Corinthians 13:11 KJV
[11] When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Same here,childish .used for infants.

But these infants are Sons who have refused to grow up.

Yet they sit where christ sits ,has what He has and can do all He can do

Growing up is to recognize what is yours .

Philemon 1:6 KJV

Active recognition that dominates your thinking and speech and conduct.

This makes your Walk effective ,productive ,fruitful .

It comes by accurate knowledge

Not by mixing up terms

" we shall become sons ,we are still children " make me like you lord "

That's a Son ,who is still a babe in his thinking

When the truth of the resurrection dawns on us ,we see equality in Him

1 Corinthians 6:17 KJV
[17] But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

Same spirit .

1 John 4:17 KJV
as he is, so are we in this world.

As He is,where he is ,we are the same

Hebrews 2:10 KJV
[10] For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Many Sons into glory .

Because we are brethren

Hebrews 2:11 KJV
[11] For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

This means from the same womb ,He didn't become a son in a process

He was declared so at His resurrection

Acts 13:33 KJV
[33] God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

We were raised with Him

Romans 1:4 KJV
[4] And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

Same resurrection as us

Romans 6:4-5 KJV
[4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Glory to His name

Our death and burial is alike ,so the resurrection

What have become what He became

He is the protype .

We are Sons ,Children and heirs of God in Christ !
